Hello Bobcat Parents/Guardians and Students,
My name is Juan Antonio Herrera, Jr. and it is my distinct honor to address you as the new Principal of George Washington Middle School. This year, I begin my 15th year as an educator. I am passionate about our children, committed to their education, and grateful that my career path has led me to the “Pride of the Riverbank.”
During the next school year, your child’s academic success and safety will be our top priorities. We are committed to teaching our students skills such as analysis, problem-solving, and investigation not only in preparation for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) but to prepare them for high school and college/vocational training. We realize, however, that this can only be accomplished if your children feel safe at school. Therefore, a state-mandated exterior door safety audit was recently completed in order to ensure all locking mechanisms and handlebars work as they should. In addition, our Faculty/Staff, Administration, UISD Police Officers and Security Guards remain vigilant and we will be requiring anybody seeking to enter our campus to present appropriate identification. Remember, school safety is everyone’s responsibility, so “if you see something, say something” to a school official.
The First Day of Class is on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. In order to ensure a smooth start, we strongly encourage you to pick up a physical copy of your child’s schedule on their designated Course Schedule Release Distribution date: 8th Grade- August 3rd, 7th Grade August 4th, and 6th Grade- August 5th. This event will take place in our Gymnasium from 10:00-Noon and 2:00-5:00 P.M. Parents of 7th Grade students are strongly encouraged to ensure their children have received their required immunizations for this school year during this process. If you have any questions regarding this matter, contact our School Nurse, Ms. Patricia De La Garza, at (956) 473-7617 or email@example.com.
In closing, I encourage you to reflect on our school theme for the 2022-2023 Academic Year: “Ready, Set, Launch!” We selected this space-related theme because we believe our school is ready to launch to new heights, especially after the lows brought on by the pandemic. Parents, we cannot set forth on this journey without you. Please make sure your child arrives at school promptly by 8:00 a.m. (7:50 a.m. for Breakfast), adheres to Standardized & Dress Code Guidelines, and regularly attends school. In addition, make sure to mark your calendars for “Meet the Teacher Night” on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Until then, please follow our school’s Facebook page (George Washington Middle School) and keep an eye out for school messages that will be sent soon from our new communication platform, ParentSquare. I wish you all a great 2022-2023 Academic Year. Let’s Go, Bobcats!
